Educa Dance – Open Class

A window into the world of ballet from the inside

The Ballet de Catalunya ‘s Educa Dance program presents its Open Class proposal, a free activity that aims to bring classical dance closer to the general public and make them participate in the daily work of a professional company.

With this initiative, we offer a unique experience: attending a real ballet class, observing how technique, musicality and virtuosity are worked on, and understanding the passion and discipline behind each movement. In addition, the teacher of the session will make small interventions to explain the vocabulary of classical dance, the correct execution of the steps and the technical and artistic criteria that are valued in this art. This knowledge will allow the audience to develop a more critical and deeper perspective when attending dance shows.

You can also see a fragment of the daily rehearsal, offering a privileged look at the creation and editing processes of the company’s productions.

Activity structure

• Before 9:45 a.m.
  The public must arrive on time . Once this time has passed, entry will not be allowed , out of respect for the dancers and so as not to interrupt the class.

• 9:45 a.m. — Entrance to the room
  Attendees will enter the space silently and take their seats without disturbing the progress of the session.

• 9:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. — Ballet class
  Observation of a professional class where dancers work on classical technique. There will be brief explanations about ballet technique and vocabulary.

• 11:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. — Break
  The audience will remain in their seats during the dancers’ break.

• 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. — Rehearsal
  Visualization of a real rehearsal with variable content depending on the ongoing production.

Practical information

• Places limited to 24 people per session.

• Only 2 tickets are allowed per person.

• To guarantee access for everyone, repeated attendance is not permitted within a 15-day period.

• The activity takes place in Studio 1 of the Ballet de Catalunya headquarters , located at Carrer Mare de Déu dels Àngels, 90 .
